I was a high school counselor. Students often stopped by my office to chat. One day a boy with an intellectual disability came by to tell me he was going to the dance. But he was worried because he didn't know how to dance. He asked if I would teach him. I told him I would have to find him another dance teacher because I had "two left feet". He had a puzzled look on his face then looked under my desk to check out my feet! I explained that it was an expression, that I didn't really have 2 left feet, and we both had a laugh. Until that day I hadn’t thought much about the idioms I learned from my mom and how they may be confusing if you take them literally.
